This single came about when I touched base with my friend Yukmouth I suggested to do a track and we decieded to go ahead with it We got a P.Killer beat and summond the legendary Ras Kass to the mic. He laced it like a spiked drink the same day and Yukmouth did his verse the following night. The subject matter of this track is rhyming to kill mcs with our lyrical prowess and letting them know how to use the mic not today but tomorrow. Monsta did the hook and I layed my verse in Adelaide at Dan Bs studio in Para Hills SA after they sent me the studio files from Los Angeles. The future is NOW. Rhyme 2 Kill D.R.U.Z.E Ft. Ras Kass Yukmouth and Monsta Ganjah Four fire breathing Mcs rhyming to kill all those in their path.. letting the world know how to rip the microphone OUT NOW THE NEW TRACK FROM D.R.U.Z.E PRODUCED BY P.KILLER (RUFF RYDERS CREW) AND FEATURING THE CLASSIC RAS KASS YUKMOUTH OF THE LUNIZ AND MONSTA GANJAH GET IT NOW ON i TUNES To preview and buy music from Rhyme 2 Kill - Single by D.R.U.Z.E Ras Kass Yukmouth Monsta G P.Killer go to: http://itunes.apple.com/au/album/rhyme-2-kill/id374522695?i=374522699 A Brief History On Local Hip Hop Artist D.R.U.Z.E Friday 30 January 2009 After spending countless hours listening to Hip Hop music throughout his life he decided it was time to enter the game and in December of 2005 he hooked up with local producer Dan B (formally of Access Audio Productions) to record The Hit Next came the 2005 DEMO and shortly after the 2006 EP Made In Australia with plenty of live shows Red Square Night Club Jive Night Club Isobar Night Club Live on Light Sq Scorcher Festival (Adelaide University) Governor Hindmarsh Hotel Crown Anchor Reynella Youth Centre and Young Guns of Hip Hop 8 - 2007- Jubilee Hotel (Queensland) D.R.U.Z.E has hip hopped his way around the country. Now hes written a full LP with Dan B called Enough Rope. Dan has been involved in mostly rock albums throughout his career but he has shown the skill it takes to produce and master a quality album no matter what the genre. This album features local raUppers A.B.Z and Sintax. Also featured on the album is Long Beachs own and Regime representer Monsta Ganjah on the heater We Drop Bombs. Enough Rope was succesfully launched at Live on Light square on the 17th of January with great support from local acts Miss Entreeg The Link DJ Lotek and Muzza from Particular People. There was a strong turnout on the night where the fans enjoyed brilliant and flawless performances from all.2009 LP Enough Rope _______________________________________________________________ Reviewed by Dorothy Pawlowski (MUSICSA) ________________________________________________________________ Posted 19 March 2009 “Enough Rope” is the 2009 released album of 9 hip-hop tracks by Adelaide artist D.R.U.Z.E in collaboration with producer Dan B with whom he has apparently worked since 2005.. Overall the album maintains a fairly consistent tempo and instrumentation across all tracks except Up and Down which runs slightly faster. The production on the entire album is consistent and reasonably slick as you would expect given the use of predominantly electronic sounds or so I assume as there is little technical information on the CD or D.R.U.Z.E’s page about the recording. To me one of the most appealing aspects of this album in terms of the usual local interpretations of hip-hop is the tendency of D.R.U.Z.E to rap in an identifiably Australian accent. It is notoriously difficult to not lapse into “accent-confusion” when vocalising in genres with traditional national ties for example Cockney for punk-pop and African-American for hip-hop. In this respect “Enough Rope” is refreshingly ocker except on Bonus Track which features (also local) guest vocalist A.B.Z and We Drop Bombs which features another guest in Monsta Ganjah. The instrumentation here is typical of the genre and is grounded fairly solidly in percussion and bass-lines melody instruments where used are understated with the exception of the open-fifth brass stabs in Start My Day Off which render an ancient Roman touch to the track and Material Things which features nice fat synth chords as well as the only female vocals apparent on the album courtesy of Teagan S. Use of vocal samples is fairly minimal too (except Green Lit and occasionally elsewhere) leaving what sounds like D.R.U.Z.E carrying the vocal can on most of this recording. As well as his accent I also groove on D.R.U.Z.E’S growly delivery which reminds me of some of my favourite dub artists. Given the minimalist nature of this type of music the lyrical content assumes a greater importance than in other popular genres. There are moments on “Enough Rope” where socio-political concerns are evident and efface to some extent the self-aggrandisement which is standard operating procedure for rap music. It is also difficult to tell whether the lyrics in Up and Down are a sexist rant or a complaint about sexploitation (I am optimistically hanging out for the latter) and I am also intrigued by the gritty themes in Green Lit although once again I acknowledge that this is usual for the style. “Heavily ed in its genre but extremely well-uted with a discernible local flavour” is how I would summarise this album in a phrase.
