St. Louis MO Nov. 2009-St. Louis Missouri has recently become a hot source for hip-hop artists including Nelly Chingy Murphy Lee and J-Kwon now you can add St. Louis native Young K to that list. With radio airplay gigs all over St Louis and one solo album already under his belt Young K can be sure his hip-hop music with a message is getting heard. For twenty-eight-year-old Young K the passion for music began early at the age of six. From a young age Young K performed in talent shows and realized the stage was where he truly belonged. In high school he joined the hip-hop group Smokas Playas Hustlers with whom he recorded his first album at the age of sixteen. Young K also attended high school with fellow up-and-coming St. Louis rapper Ruka Puff and the two would routinely battle it out. Unfortunately Young K got caught up in drugs and street life and temporarily lost track of his dream of performing it took a stay in jail to get back on track. While in jail Young K became determined to make major changes in his life and pursue his ultimate goal of becoming a successful hip-hop artist. When Young K was released from jail in 2002 he immediately put his plans for change into action finding gainful employment and devoting all his free time to his music. He began rapping with fellow St. Louis hip-hop artist and entrepreneur Mercy CEO of B.O.S.S. Entertainment and Mercy immediately recognized Young Ks huge talent and potential. Young K soon signed with record label Thumbz Down and recorded his solo debut Thug Congregation which was hosted by DJ Cuddy of major St. Louis radio station 104.1. Young K later broke with Thumbz Down and ventured out on his own continuing to write and perform new music. Young K writes all his own music and defines his work as hip-hop with a message music he can let speak for itself. Some compare his style to Bone Thugs-n-Harmony but his songs are ultimately personal and idiosyncratic as he raps his lyrics the way they come to me. His tracks Westside Ghetto Streetz and I Know have spun on major radio station Hot 104.1 St. Louis hes also been played on St. Louis college station 89.5 The Wave and several Atlanta area radio stations. In addition hes performed on several talent shows broadcast on UPN and he gives frequent live performances at St. Louis hotspots including Spruills Nightclub Just Bills Bar T Billys and Limelight. In the future Young K plans to continue writing recording and performing as well as developing his own record label.
